Final Mutli Cam Piece-

I started my production process on Tuesday 2nd March, I only had one location to film the majority of my news piece on the day, because I had previously filmed my weather segment a few days prior.

For my shoot, I wanted to wear a suit, like all news presenters wear, to have that formal attire, and look that professional and trustworthy host. However I currently do not own a suit, and with no shops open right now due to the on going lockdown, I had to use the next best thing.whichwas my smartest shirt. I had decided to not wear smart trousers and opted to wear shorts instead underneath, which could be used as a gag in the piece, which I later cut out

Because of the current lockdown situation, I had to film inside my house. I had chosen two possible filming locations: My kitchen and my bedroom. I eventualy decided to film in the kitchen because I felt that there would be a lot more space to film, this allows for me to get more angles than i would be able to obtain in my bedroom. And finally it would resemble more of a studio than my small bedroomwould so I ultimately decided to film in my kitchen for these reasons. I would have liked to have filmed at the stuido in the college however I knew from very early on in the project that it seemed very very unlikely that I may have been unable to film or work at college so I made sure that I would allow for everything to be done at home,if we did not go back to college. Which ended up being the case.

I had ordered a tripod off of Amazon for the shoot, to allow me to correctly position my phone at the correct height and camera angle which I decided was a medium close up, which is typically the one used for most news broadcasts. The Tri-pod also allowed for me to utilise different camera angles as I did not have anyone at home to help me film my project and hold the camera.

I had written a fairly basic script for my introuductions, links and outro, but I had searched for good and uplifting stories to use for project and decided to use some stories that I had found on the BBC News site and on instragram that I thought to be the most interesting and  inspiring stories that would make my piece great. I had decided to six stories that I thought would be able to do this.

I had decided to loosely base the format of my show off of the format of Some Good News, the YouTube series that premiered last April, Some Good News usually followed the format of an Intro, then a fairly quick rundown of some good news stories, then there is usaully cutaways to celebritiy guests who will present the weather and finally the main good news stories of the episode. My project would follow this basic structure however the main difference being the length of the show. An average episode of Some Good News is usually around 20 minutes, whereas I was aiming for mine to be under 5 minutes in length. Due to my audience market research, I wanted to appeal to 18-24 year olds, I wanted to include some content exculsivly for them, while still maintaining that good news feel. Which is why I went for something cool in unique such as the giant snake sculpture story which I found on Instagram.

My shoot took around 40 minutes to film, which was mainly down to different takes due to me continuing to mess up my words, as I had to try and remember my lines as I did not have my script in front of me and  was struggling to get the news stories exactly right. However as filming was nearing completion, I was interupted by my mum and sisiter coming home and I was unable to completley finish the shoot. Although it was around 95% completed.

Knowing that I had to film the final parts of the project on another day, I ultimatley decided to reshoot the whole project because when I rewatched what I had shot, I wasn't too happy with it due to the lighting in my kitchen and also ecause it felt way too short, even though I had done a lot of takes, the best ones were all around 30 seconds each which felt very short and would not have done any of the stories justice.

So on Friday 5th March, I reshot my Multi-Cam project and I was alot happier with how this shoot went. I felt much more organised with everything, knowing what I had to do, how it was going to be set up and what I was meant to talk about. The whole thing took around 25 minutes to set up and shoot, which was a big difference from the previous shoot. And overall I felt so much happier with what I had shot beause it felt much more fleshed out than before.

Editing:

Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, I am unable to use the faciliites at the college meaning I am unable to use the editing suites meaning that I would have to edit from home. However I was unable to access Premiere Pro on my laptop as my current laptop is not the right type to properly run the software. Because when I tried to run Premiere Pro to edt, it was very laggy and slow which would have been impossible to edit on, so I had to find an alternative editing software.

I decided to use IMovie on my Iphone because I know it is a trustowrthy editing software and it is very accessable for me considering it is built into my phone. However I had never actually used IMovie to edit properly before, so I watched the basic tutorial and went from there. And it was actually pretty easy.

I decided to make a title card on an Intro maker app to make it look as professional as I could. I felt that this would really make it feel like a real news peice and I feel that it did exactly that. I used as a "news style" template and felt that it suited the style I was going for and decided to use it in my piece

I decided to use cutaway images and videos to give context to what I was covering and used images and videos from Instagram, BBC news and NBC news to do so. Which I then incoorparated into my edit

Imovie was actualy very simple to use and made it so easy for me to complee the final project, which I had decided to shoot in order so I knew what the general structure of the piece would be.

I encountered no problems with the editing phase and I was very happy with how it turned out.
